National Conference of FHNO Concludes at PGI

Chandigarh 29th September:- The 14th National Conference of FHNO was conculeded today at PGI. The Conference got overwhelming response on the video session where experienced surgeons demonstrated their surgical skills through videos. A brainstorming session discussed targeted therapy for head and neck cancers. P A Shah Oration was given by DrArifJamshed, Vice President of Pakistan Society of Clinical Oncology, who presented on combination of treatment modality that ensures functional preservation in patients with advanced head and neck cancer.

 The sessions ended with a symposium involving trainees in order to encourage young surgeons to take up Head and Neck Oncosurgery as a subspecialty. Prof Naresh Panda, the organizing Chairman and the Head of the Department Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery at PGIMER received immense applause and appreciation for making the Conference successful, from the delegates, residents and faculty who had come in great numbers to participate in the Conference. The day before session was also discussed with talks on emerging innovations and technologies in Head and Neck Cancer and panel discussion on therapeutic options for recurrent cancers.  Dr CaiGrau, Professor from Denmark delivered R W Tiwari Oration and spoke about advanced radiotherapy techniques meant for safety and better treatment outcome in cancer patients. Foundation Oration was delivered by Prof.SamanWarnakulasuriya, Professor at King's College London included where he talked about treatment for oral leukoplakia. There was panel discussion on Thyroid cancer and symposia on HPV related Head and Neck cancer. A preliminary data on association of cancer and infection with HPV (virus usually associated with sexually transmitted diseasesin Indian population) was presented as well. Later half of the day included talks and discussions on rehabilitation and supportive treatments in head and neck cancer. However the main attraction of the day for most of the surgeons was experience shared by Dr.MuradE. Lala, Oncosurgeon at P D Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai.
