Adherence To Model Code of Conduct Should Be Ensured: Sanjay Dixit

Mohali 21st April:-- In accordance with the directions of election
commission, adherence to model code of conduct should be ensured for
lok sabha elections to be held on 30 April in SAS Nagar, Kharar & Dera
Bassi constituencies. Strict action against defaulters either party or
candidate, should be initiated, if found violating the model code of
conduct. This was stated by General Election Observer Sanjay Dixit
IAS, while he was reviewing the randomization of EVMs in the presence
of representatives of various political parties, here at District
Administrative Complex. He minutely reviewed the process and showing
his satisfactoriness towards the security arrangements; he said that
the monitoring & Surveillance teams formed for successful completion
of elections should perform their duty carefully, so that no body
could dare to influence the voters by a means.
During this, District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner
Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that to conduct fair & transparent
elections in the district, all necessary measures have been taken. He
said that 6 lacs 16 thousand 854 voters will use their constitutional
right whereas 20 thousand new voters have been enrolled in the
district. For 688 Polling booths 2752 officers will be deputed. He
said that at every polling booth there will be one Presiding Officer,
One Alternative Presiding Officer along with polling officers will be
deputed. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that special arrangements for
sitting & facility of drinking water have also been ensured at polling
booths to facilitate the voters. He said that adherence of model code
of conduct will not be compromise at any cost and the teams thus
formed in view of security aspects should perform their duties with
honesty & dedication. He said that the final rehearsal of polling
staff will be conducted on 27 April. He said that for smooth
functioning of election process, polling staff has been made aware
about the working of EVMs & election procedure. District Electoral
Officer said that 122 polling booths in the district are hyper
sensitive & 231 are sensitive, and to prevent any mishap & to control
anti social elements the booths will be under strict monitoring of
micro observers deputed for the purpose. Besides above, 21 polling
booths will be monitored through live web casting, for which the
control room will be set up at District Election Office SAS Nagar. He
said that videography of polling booths will also be done. Sh. Sidhu
said that every effort will be done for peaceful completion of
transparent elections in the district & Law & Order in the district
will be ensured.
