Actors from 'Kalakaar' Group of Hallmark School Play 'Gagan Damama Baajyo'

Chandigarh 24th March:-- The audience was taken back in time by Hallmark Public School, Panchkula’s theatre wing-- 'Kalakaar' to the era of the British Raj when Shaheed Bhagat Singh became a martyr at Lahore when the English advanced his hanging by a day. The play 'Gagan Damama Baajyo', performed so ably by seventeen children of Hallmark Public School, was penned by well known playwright Mr. Piyush Mishra and directed by Abhishek Sharma, who is a Post Graduate from Dept.of Ind Theatre, PU.

 The spectators were kept spell bound for the entire duration of  50 mins of the play when it was staged at the Yavnika Open Air Theatre, Panchkula. The play was staged in a very well coordinated, with all the characters having professionally recorded their dialogues by giving voice overs in a audio studio. The attires of the actors had been carefully chosen to reflect that era and the stage was set with all ingredients like music and lights and props of that tumultuous historical era.

 The captivating voice of the 'Sutradhar' in the play was given by Jivtesh Garg, Director, Hallmark Public School. Mr. Garg said after the show, “Our young actors’ performed so well because there was motivation in them. They drew this motivation from the iconic freedom fighters particularly Bhagat Singh. The idea of organizing the play was to impress upon the youth of India to follow Bhagat Singh ideology. This is why the play clearly enunciated why Bhagat Singh became a freedom fighter, his perception of free India etc.” The bow at the end of the show taken by the lead cast, Snehil Sharma - Bhagat Singh, Paras Garg -Rajguru,Devkaran Singh Dhillon-Sukhdev, Jatin Chhabra-Ashfaaq Ullah Khan, Mehar Kaur Nakai-victim of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and others received a thunderous applause from the spectators. The decibel level of the ovation was a clear indication of the high quality of the play.

A very satisfied Mrs Kavita Wadhwa, Principal Hallmark said after the show, that the hard work put in by students of classes 5 to 9 by training and rehearsing for long hours for the last 20 days has paid off. The show really went off exceedingly well. I am happy. She further added that the preparations saw our students getting so involved in their characters that they gave very real expressions and became quite emotional, some even cried.

It is noteworthy that Martyrdom Day, of Shaheed Bhagat Singh is celebrated each year on 23rd March and this year it was marked befittingly by Hallmark Public School, Panchkula
