Chandigarh 01st January:---State Bank of India, Chandigarh Circle, Chief General Manager Lingaraj Mahapatra accompanied by Dr. Yogesh Chawla, Director, PGI, ushered the New Year 2014 in a novel manner. The Bank dedicated 4 Battery Operated Cars and 1000 OPD Chairs to the PGI under its Community Service Banking effort. The battery cars would assist patients and attendants move for investigations and tests / check-ups from one part of the PGI campus to another. This would also serve the purpose of ensuring a pollution free environment for the PGI. The chairs in the New OPD block would ensure that patients / attendants who have to wait for their turn do not sit on the floor. This will be a big relief to the over 10,000 patients and their attendants visiting the PGI Out Patient Departments daily.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yogesh Chawla, Director PGI lauded the initiatives taken by SBI from time to time. Other senior administrative functionaries of PGI present on the occasion included Dr AK Gupta, Medical Superintendent; Mr Chetan PS Rao, Deputy Director (Administration); Mr Sushil Thakur, Financial Adviser; various heads of departments, faculty and others.
Lingaraj Mahapatra, CGM, SBI praised the ceaseless effort of the PGIMER in providing the latest and best available medical care to the poorest of poor in the region while also fulfilling the role of being a premier research Institute in the country. He assured those present that the present donation was the first in a series of such endeavours of the Bank in ensuring that the benefits of advanced medical aid reach the under-privileged, while also reiterating the Bank's endeavour to protect our fragile environment.
