By 1 2 1 News Reporter

Chandigarh 18th October:--- As many as 500 students from Nursery till Class XI presented The British School (TBS), Mohali's colourful musical extravaganza –'The Horizon' in Chandigarh's Tagore Theatre today. The event came alive with an opening item -- 'Ganapati', at the end of the presentation many Ganapati's with the real Ganesha look lined up and this was applauded by the audience. The Guest of Honour on the occasion was Mr. Sudhir Mohan, DG, Public Relations, Haryana Government. T R Sethi and Director Mrs. Reena Sethi were also present.  The show was choreographed by Sameer Mahajan.

The soul of 'The Horizon' was certainly the play 'Little Mermaid'. The motive of the enactment was to bring the importance of aspects like obeying one's parents, not being too emotional and imbibing qualities like perseverance into focus. The story is told very interestingly through a mermaid 'Ariel' who in the desire of becoming a human loses her voice and family by coming under the influence of the Sea witch – 'Ursula'. She loses her voice and her family to achieve her dream. Like most teenagers 'Ariel' won't listen to her father. A very cute ensemble was 'A Child's fantasy' in which tiny tots of TBS, Mohali showed their dream World of fairy lands with a dash of different hues and colours. The idea behind 'The Horizon' was also to give a message that nature around us is fast diminishing and it was imperative to safeguard our flora, fauna and natural endowments. This was explained lucidly by students through 'God's Creation' in which butterflies with vibrant colours formed the theme and their dwindling numbers was used to drive home the point of environmental preservation. The young ones performed some foot taping dances in Gangam style & gave a display of an energetic Bhangra performance which made the audience made up of proud parents also foot tap in unison.

Mrs. Reena Sethi, Director, TBS, Mohali, said that the aim of education being imparted at the school is to give the students a modern outlook while keeping them rooted to the rich traditions of the Indian society. The annual day celebrations are a good mix of both modernity and tradition. Today awards were also given to students for Scholastic, Co Scholastic and Sports for their achievements through the year.
