All Government Schools/ Colleges should Have Solar Power Plant : Shivraj V. Patil

Chandigarh 05th August:-- To review the Solar Energy Programme of U.T. Chandigarh, the Punjab Governor  & Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil, Presiding over a high level meeting of senior officers of UT Administration here today. He desired that all Government Schools/ Colleges should have Solar Power Plant on their rooftops within minimum possible time, wherever technically feasible. He also desired that Chandigarh Housing Board should install Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at houses already constructed under Slum Rehabilitation Scheme and provision for same to be kept for all newer houses being constructed by Chandigarh Housing Board. Mr. Patil, exhorted Municipal Corporation to take up Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant installation at their Offices, all Community Centres, Dispensaries, Fire Stations, etc. in a time bound manner. He also desired that street-lights should be solar powered so as to save conventional electricity. Besides he wants that Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant should be installed at more Government residential houses, in a time bound manner.The Governor desired that such innovative technology in battery storage should be explored and should be used especially for small residential houses. He said that nowadays 'Silicon Spray technology' has come up and is being used instead of conventional solar panels and possibility of the same may be explored here. He also emphasized upon using new and latest technology with which, the cost of Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant will come down and shall be affordable for domestic private households. Mr Patil, also reviewed the ongoing Solar Energy Programme of Chandigarh Solar city. During the discussion,  Santosh Kumar, Director (Science & Tech.) apprised the Administrator that Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Projects at 8 different Government buildings have been commissioned, totaling about 500 KWp capacities.  He also informed that about another 1300 KWp Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants at 4 different Government Colleges are under installation and was likely to be commissioned within next 2 months.  Earlier Santosh Kumar, Director (Science & Tech.) was asked to give Presentation on the latest Solar Technology being practiced in Germany and USA, based on his visit in June, 2013. In his brief Presentation, Santosh Kumar highlighting the latest technology being used in the field of solar energy in Germany and USA. He informed about the latest innovation in better storage taking place in Germany where 1MW size battery can be housed in a Cabinet of size 15'x12'x10'. The Review meeting was attended byK.K.Sharma, Adviser to Administrator, M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Satya Gopal, Secretary (S & T), Anil Kumar, Home Secretary, V.K.Singh, Finance Secretary,S.K. Chadha, Chief Engineer, and S.E. (Electricity), UT.
