CHANDIGARH BAGS 3 PRIZES AT NATIONAL SUMMIT ON BEST PRACTICES AND INNOVATIONS IN PUBLIC HEALTH CARE

Chandigarh,08 July:-- National Summit on best practices and innovation in public health care was held at SKICC, Srinagar w.e.f 3rd July to 5th July 2013. The national summit was organized by the union ministry in which its senior officers from Govt. of India, Ministry of Health and family welfare, NRHM the representatives of World Health Organization and UNFPA, Principal/ Commissioner Secretary Health and Mission Directors from various states participated. During the Summit, 'Best Practices and Innovations in Public Health Care were discussed by various states across India. The information was shared with various stake holders. On the concluding day of the national summit on best practices and innovation, Additional Secretary and Mission Director, NRHM, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Mrs. Anuradha Gupta announced various awards under various categories of Child survival, infant survival, new born survival, population stabilization, safe delivery, indoor and surgical services, out-patient services, malaria control and TB control.

According to Secretary Health, Sh. Anil Kumar, the improvement in infrastructure in terms of skilled manpower, machine and equipment, medicine supply and other strategies adopted from time to time at various levels have paid dividends. For example: under NRHM 733 posts were sanctioned in F.Y. 2012-2013, 679 posts have been filled so far. 74 doctors, 20 Ayush Officers, 89 ANMs, 20 Lab Technicians, 108 Staff Nurses have been filled. Additional beds, lab facilities 24X7 alongwith ultrasound services and other diagnostic facilities, Signages etc have been strengthened with the support from the Chandigarh Administration and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A strong convergence has been setup. Action oriented skill trainings are being focused upon regular monitoring/supervisory mechanism has been setup.There has been remarkable improvement in the documentation, the quality data has been generated and the analysis is being utilized for taking appropriate corrective steps.

 

While the top prize in Population Stabilization was awarded to the State of Jammu and Kashmir, U.T, Chandigarh got three prizes for improvement in the indoor patient care, outdoor patient care and reduction in infant mortality rate / early Neo-Natal mortality rate. Strategies adopted by U.T., in reduction of IMR have been appreciated.

Infant mortality rate for India is 44. But U.T, Chandigarh stands 2nd in the country among various U.Ts/ small states having achieved Infant Mortality Rate 20 per thousand live births as per SRS 2011 report. Infant mortality rate has been reduced from 29 as per 2008 SRS to 20 as per SRS 2011. Strong immunization strategies have been adopted for the children. U.T., Chandigarh is the only U.T. / State in the India where immunization services are provided three days a week as compared to 2 days in a week in other states. Regular outreach sessions are held to cover high risk population at the constructions sites/ rag pickers/ un-listed slum areas. Chandigarh has achieved immunization rate of 92.47 % WHO monitors have confirmed that the list of beneficiaries who are due to get the immunization is available with every field workers. Special slum interventions have been undertaken in U.T., Chandigarh. The care during diarrhea, referral of the sick children to the hospital is being strengthened alongwith the indoor care. The sick care new born units, new born care corners have been strengthened.
