Trident Group Announces ₹1 Crore Research Sustainability Lab at SLIET Sangrur; Initiative Led by Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta, Rajya Sabha MP

Chandigarh Jan.22, 2026:-Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Member of the Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development, and Chairman Emeritus of the Trident Group, today announced a ₹1 crore contribution for the establishment of a Research Sustainability Laboratory at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET). The initiative focuses on developing engineering solutions for mechanical and electrical/electronic system failures in industrial plants using real operational data from Trident manufacturing units.
The Research Sustainability Lab will support, Failure diagnosis and root‑cause analysis of machinery, Predictive maintenance frameworks using engineering and AI-driven tools, Data‑based reliability, modelling for electrical and electronic systems, Collaborative R&D projects between SLIET researchers and Trident technical teams. This new facility aims to strengthen India's capability in industrial problem-solving by enabling students and researchers to work with real datasets and create practical solutions for large-scale manufacturing environments.
The programme was organized under the leadership of Prof. Mani Kant Paswan, Director, SLIET, with support from Prof. Ravi Kant Mishra, Dean (Alumni & Industrial Relations), and Prof. Surinder Singh, Dean (Research & Consultancy). The institute emphasized that the initiative will enhance hands-on learning, real-world exposure, and research depth in mechanical, electrical, and electronics engineering.
Addressing the gathering, Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta emphasised the growing importance of engineering innovation, technical precision and data-driven decision-making in modern manufacturing. He said the new lab would help bridge the gap between academic research and real industrial challenges. He also announced that the Trident Group will offer placement opportunities to 100 meritorious SLIET students, with preference to those who are academically strong but economically disadvantaged. This support reflects the organisation's commitment to enabling talent without financial barriers.
Earlier, Director Prof. Paswan briefed the gathering on SLIET's ongoing initiatives in research, innovation, and skill development. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students, reaffirming the growing strength of industry–academia collaboration. The establishment of the Research Sustainability Lab marks a significant step towards advancing manufacturing reliability, improving technical skill development, and strengthening India's industrial competitiveness.
Chitkara University–University of Maryland Winter School Reimagines Sector 17, Chandigarh
Chandigarh, Jan.22, 2026:-A 17-day Collaborative Winter School on Urban Redevelopment, jointly organised by the Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture at Chitkara University and the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at the University of Maryland, concluded with final student presentations proposing innovative strategies for revitalising Sector 17, Chandigarh.
Held from January 5, the 17 day intensive international design studio brought together 10 students from the University of Maryland and 12 students from Chitkara University. The programme focused on reimagining the future of Sector 17, Chandigarh through contemporary urban redevelopment approaches, and was conducted under the guidance of Ar. Surinder Bahga, Principal Architect, Saakaar Foundation.
During the final jury, students presented comprehensive proposals backed by in-depth site analysis, policy reviews, development frameworks, and financial feasibility assessments. Jury members commended the overall quality of work, noting that several proposals demonstrated strong potential to contribute meaningfully to the rejuvenation of Chandigarh's central business district.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, said that this Winter School reflects our commitment to global academic collaboration and practice-oriented learning. Such initiatives enable students to engage with real-world urban challenges while gaining valuable international perspectives.
The Winter School concluded with the felicitation of participating faculty and students from both institutions, marking a successful milestone in international academic cooperation and experiential learning.

Mohali, Jan.21, 2026:-North India's entertainment ecosystem received a significant boost with the launch of Smarters Music Studio, a technology-driven music and post-production facility that opened in Mohali today, offering artists and filmmakers access to international-level production infrastructure within the region.
The grand opening was marked by the presence of renowned Bollywood and Punjabi actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi as the chief guest, along with a host of prominent artists, directors, producers and industry professionals from the music, film and OTT sectors. The turnout highlighted the industry's growing appetite for world-class creative infrastructure in North India.
Sharing his thoughts, Gurpreet Ghuggi said that Smarters Music Studio represents a new chapter for Punjab's creative industry. Speaking on the occasion, Sukh Brar, a renowned music producer known for his work in Punjabi songs and films and a specialist in mixing and mastering, who is also the driving force behind the studio, said that Smarters Music Studio was conceived with a vision to bring international-level music and post-production technology to Punjab. Our aim is to provide artists, filmmakers and content creators with a space where creativity is supported by world-class infrastructure. With this launch in Mohali, we are proud to contribute to the growth of North India's music, film and OTT ecosystem.
A major highlight of the facility is its installation of the DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel, a high-end colour grading system used in international cinema and premium OTT productions. With this integration, Smarters Music Studio becomes the only music studio in North India to offer such advanced visual post-production capabilities, enabling cinematic finishing and broadcast-ready mastering under one roof.
The studio brings together advanced visual workflows with comprehensive audio services including professional recording, music production, stereo and Dolby Atmos mixing and mastering, background scoring, dubbing, podcast production and sound restoration, supported by industry-grade acoustics and premium monitoring systems.
Strategically located in Mohali, the studio is expected to reduce dependence on metro cities and strengthen North India's production landscape.
