Deptt of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries to organize Quarterly Meeting of Nodal Officers

Chandigarh 13th November:- The Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries U.T. Chandigarh is going to organize quarterly meeting of nodal officers of Animal husbandry Department of Northern States with technical support of Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Jalandhar on 17th November at State Guest House, Sector-6, Chandigarh. Capt. Karnail Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry will chair the meeting.

Capt. Karnail Singh further informed that the RDDL Jalandhar set up in Northern Zone is an Animal Health Institute and is mandated to hold quarterly meeting of Nodal officer of Department of Animal Husbandry of its constitute states of the Northern Region to discuss Animal Disease Diagnostic Activities, Livestock & Poultry Disease scenario, Disease Surveillance Activities for the Avian Influenza and other Livestock Diseases like Rabies, Foot and Mouth, Brucellosis, etc.

The meeting shall also discuss about strengthening of networking among Veterinary Disease Diagnostic Laboratories and requirement of training needs of State/ RDDL's. Besides other relevant topic concerning animals and their welfare the RDDL, Jalandhar also serve as the referral laboratory for various Animal Diseases and their investigations for Northern State of Animal Husbandry.

The Director expressed his concern that the infectious diseases as reported from different parts of Northern India cause enormous economic losses to the Livestock farmers. Therefore, it is essential to establish prevalence and endemic level of various infectious diseases at National level to adopt various control strategies. Various serological and molecular techniques are available to establish the status of various infectious diseases and to confirm various infectious diseases at the state level. Thus this meeting will be of great importance to discuss the various infectious diseases prevalent in Chandigarh and its neighbouring states. Capt. Karnail Singh said that apart from RDDL, Jalandhar this meeting shall be attended by about 20 delegates including Nodal Officers of Animal Husbandry of constituent states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi and Chandigarh along with experts of Veterinary Universities of these states. It is for the first time that a meeting of this magnitude is being held at Chandigarh under the patronage of U.T. Administration.
