PGI Professor Delivered Prestigious Dr. Rajammal P.Devadas Oration

Chandigarh 12th October:- Professor Satyavati Rana, Department of Gastroenterology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh delivered the prestigious 6thDr. Rajammal P.Devadas Oration 2015 on Nutrition and Diseases: An Interaction during Annual Conference of Nutrition Society of India which was held at Hyderabad on 9th -10th October, 2015. She was selected for this Memorial Award due to her outstanding contributions in the field of Applied Nutritional Sciences. She has made her mark through her pioneering work in Experimental Nutrition. She has always believed that knowledge of nutrition with education to both, the general public and particularly health professionals is critical if we are to succeed in significantly reducing the excessive premature morbidity and mortality from our leading killer diseases. She is the Convener of Chandigarh Chapter of Nutrition Society of India since long and is actively involved in educating general public about healthy food benefits and uses of curd. In this oration also, she highlighted the benefits of nutrition in prevention of diseases. She has also established with her research work that even mild to moderate malnutrition during postnatal growth of a child affects different systems of the body. Therefore, it should be taken care off. From starting of her career, she has worked on different aspects of malnutrition and published various research articles on preventive aspects of nutritional foods like wheatgrass, carotenoids and garlic. One of her achievement also lies in establishment of lactose hydrogen breath test technique according to Indian population. This is a non-invasive test which can help to diagnose whether an individual is lactose intolerant or not. Further, she guides patients with lactose intolerance about benefits of curd intake and how they can also digest 125mL milk taken at a time. Thus, she was bestowed with this honor of oration by the society to encourage her hard work and indebt dedication in field of applied nutritional sciences.
