Chandigarh 14th July:- Miss Shilpa Thakur, a Ph.D student of Department of Biochemistry, working under the guidance of Dr. Jyotdeep Kaur, Additional Professor has got the Wiley-Biofactors young investigator award for the article entitled "Regulation at multiple levels control the expression of folate transporters in liver cells in conditions of ethanol exposure and folate deficiency". The award includes a cash prize of USD 1000 and will be awarded at the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular biology (IUBMB) Congress in Brazil during 24-28 August, 2015. In this paper, the authors have elucidated the transcriptional as well as epigenetic regulatory mechanisms responsible for the alteration of expression of folate transporters in two different conditions of folate deficiency i.e folate depletion and ethanol exposure in liver cells. This study is significant in view of the prevalent deficiency of folic acid, a water soluble vitamin, due to chronic alcoholism especially, in countries where folate fortification strategies have not been implemented and thus, a huge segment of population is folate deficient.
Nice pictures. I like all the images of that blog.
