Thalassaemic Children Welfare Association organise Blood Donation Camp

Chandigarh 23rd May:- Thalassaemic Children Welfare Association (Regd.), PGI Chandigarh, today organised 145th Blood Donation camp at the Zakir Hall of the PGI.  In this camp 303 units of blood was collected for the blood bank of PGI, Chandigarh.  The camp was inaugurated by Ashok Garg, Govt. Contractor, Panchkula. This camp was organized in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh under the supervision of Prof. Neelam Marwaha, Head, Department of Transufsion Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh.

According to the spokesperson of the PGI, that association organizes several voluntarily Blood Donation Camps every year to collect 8000-9000 units of blood for its 410 thalassemic children, for whom blood is lifeline for their survival.  They need blood transfusion after every 2-3 weeks for whole of their lives for maintaining blood haemoglobin level around 10 mg.Out of these camps, six camps are organized at PGI, Chandigarh and one camp at GMCH 32 during summer months, when there is acute shortage of blood in these blood banks due to several reasons, so that our thalassemics are not deprived of the regular blood supply for transfusion.
