Karkra Takes Over As Federation of Senior Citizens’ Associations,President

Chandigarh 02nd July:--A Meeting of Governing Body of the Federation of Senior Citizens' Associations, Punjab, was held at Mohali Club, Mohali, under the Chairmanship of the President, FEDSEN Dr Amarjit Singh Khehra. Very important decisions were taken. Dr. Khehra hitherto President of the Federation was unanimously elected Chairman of the FEDSEN and Sh. S P Karkra, IAS, Retired, the President of the Ludhiana unit of the Federation was elected President of the FEDSEN with one voice. Whereas Dr. Khehra promised to render his services to the Federation, he handed over the charge to his successor Sh. S P Karkra. As the wings of the FEDSEN are expanding, new members are getting enrolled the emphasis was on the formation of new Senior Citizens Associations in the villages and towns. Two new Associations from villages and another two from towns were inducted into the Federation. Almost 40 District Presidents/ Vice Presidents were present and actively participated in deliberations.After the presentation of the Financial Report for the year, the outgoing and incoming Presidents open up with new projects, particularly taking up the issues concerning Senior Citizens with State and Central Governments. At local level the district and rural units should build pressure on the local leaders and officers for attending to the problems of the aged persons. Stress was on arranging some venues in each locality/sector for holding meetings and increase in pension of low income senior citizens. The new President, Sh. S P Karkra, assured the members to keep the ensign of the FEDSEN high and work on the guidelines of the outgoing President. The meeting came to a close with warm thanks given by Sh. H.S. Mand, President, Mohali Senior Citizens Association
